It has been quite awhile since I have posted anything, if there is anyone reading this blog I appoligize for my very long absence. It has been a tough couple of months medical wise. I'm pretty sure it's due to the many changes in meds trying to find the right combination to control my migaines and keep the pain at bay. It has become much more difficult to control my flare ups since the car accident 2010. I am determined to keep the postings more regular so I am making a promise to myself and to you that there will be a post a least once a week.
To start off the new year I want to share a website that I have been following for some time now, It has helped me a great deal with slowly moving to a gluten free diet. It was something recomended to me by my general practitioner, he suggested I give it a try to eliminate or decrease my migraines, as of right now my migraines are still the same so I have decided to move to the next step the "Elimination Diet"
An Elimination Diet is a method of identifying foods that an individual cannot consume without adverse effects.[1] Adverse effects may be due to food allergy, food intolerance, other physiological mechanisms (such as metabolic or toxins),[2] or a combination of these. Elimination diets typically involve entirely removing a suspected food from the diet for a period of time from two weeks to two months, and waiting to determine whether symptoms resolve during that time period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elimination_diet.
This was not an easy decision for me as it is a very strict regimin that requires alot of dedication. If you think it is something you would like to try be sure to talk to your doctor first as they can point you in the right direction or let you know if this type of diet is right for you. The other three things you need are self control, time and energy. I know I am going to have a difficult time with the restrictions as I am a lover of breads, cheeses, and most of all sugar! I am also worried about the time it may take prep each of the meals, but I am willing to give it a try in order to feel better. My plan is to tackle alot of the prep on my good days, that way I am able to just grab something when I am having an off day.
I think the website I have been following is going to make the process a bit easier as they have a great page that gives you tips and yummy looking recipes. http://www.nourishingmeals.com/They also give you the step by step program to follow in a PDF format, I printed out phase one and have it posted on my fridge to remind me what I can eat and what to avoid. They also have an amazing cookbook that is available for purchase, all the recipes are broken down into easy step by step instructions. Making the whole process a little bit easier.
I am going to journal the whole process, the ups the downs and everything in between. When I find a great recipie I will be sure to share it with you, so stay tuned!
